TRANSIT A4

Our first MARS exhibition to raise fund for archiving efforts

Kuala Lumpur, November 2012 – HOM’s latest exhibition is a tour de force, featuring over 70 of Malaysia’s most popular and successful living artists coming together for a good cause.

Titled TRANSIT A4, the exhibition is a charitable effort, with half proceeds of sales going towards the setup and efforts of the Malaysian Art Archive & Research Support (MARS), a centre that will compile, preserve, and archive documents (book, catalogue, pamphlet, brochure, audiovisual, etc) related to Malaysian art. Developed by Shahnim Safian, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, and Nur Hanim Khairuddin, the trio will bear the responsibility of piloting the first phase of this mission by establishing a space in Kuala Lumpur, as well as sourcing and accumulating documents related to Malaysian art.
MARS will be launched in conjunction with the TRANSIT A4 exhibition, and its efforts are meant to benefit the art world, as well as the wider public. “This exhibition features works that reflect the life journeys of the artists, their past and new experiences, and the transitions of their artistic venture,” notes Bayu Utomo Radjikin, HOM’s director. And the title of the exhibition hints at the size of all the artworks – no piece is larger than the standard A4 measurement.
Sculptures, portraits, drawings, and mixed media works in each artist’s signature style will be on display, and for visitors, this scope will be evidence of the great diversity available in contemporary Malaysian art. For budding collectors, it will also be a wonderful opportunity to obtain artworks by key names and emerging artists, as many of the artworks are priced below RM1,000.
